Steps towards implementation

Finland is preparing a CEHAP using the 1997 NEHAP as the basis. This will be carried out by the inter-ministerial co operation group on environment and health that participated in the preparation of the Budapest Conference and meets on a regular basis. It incldes representatives from the Ministries of Social Affairs and Health, Environment, Agriculture, and Trade and Commerce, and related agencies.

As a kick-off for the CEHAP activities, an open seminar on children, environment and health was held in September 2005. The aim of the seminar was to discuss threats to children’s health caused by environmental factors in Finland and potential actions to improve the situation. There were altogether almost 250 participants, including representatives from environmental, school and other health care, day care, education, science, administration, local political decision-making and NGOs.
