Title of the project: ’People against toxics’


The project focused on waste burning in Yekaterinburg, where air pollution is a major problem due to emissions of POPs and other dangerous substances. Children in particular are at risk of breathing in polluted air. The project aimed to inform inhabitants of the dangers of air pollution and the health impacts of waste burning. Leaflets were disseminated explaining the interactions between human health and air pollution. Several roundtables were organized entitled ’Community against toxics’ attended by the representatives of the local community, NGOs, students, local authorities, medical staff and public health representatives. The main project objective was to set up an official control system for waste incineration.
