EUCHIRES 2006, European public awareness campaign on the use of seat belts and child restraint systems 2006

Name of the organization: Institute for Driver Rehabilitation and Diagnostics (INFAR)

Title of the project: EUCHIRES 2006, European public awareness campaign on the use of seat belts and child restraint systems 2006

Contact: www.infar.at

The main aims were to increase public knowledge of the obligation to use a seat belt in the back seats and to encourage the use of seat belts by children. Fastening the seat belt must become a safety reflex from the earliest age.

Project communication was built around five principals:

-  Use of a tangible stimulus to change automatic behaviour

-  Direct communication with children

-  Making seat belt use attractive

-  Taking a positive approach.

Overall, the project was centred on 4 key activities: a public awareness campaign, gathering information, enforcement, and the measurement of the efficiency of actions taken.
