Cleaner air to reduce asthma and respiratory diseases

CEHAPE: "We aim to prevent and reduce respiratory disease due to outdoor and indoor air pollution, thereby contributing to a reduction in the frequency of asthmatic attacks, in order to ensure that children can live in an environment with clean air." Regional Priority Goal III.

Regarding the issue of preserving a clean indoor and outdoor air for children, the NGO Brussels statement, identified the need for:

A pan-European strategy to phase out leaded petrol, to reduce emissions from road vehicles and encourage alternative forms of transport.

Stricter tobacco control in public places, especially kindergartens, schools, public transport, and school buses.

Ratification and enforcement of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, especially countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Newly-Independent States.

Better monitoring and control of industrial emissions and waste incineration affecting children’s health.

Community bio monitoring of actual child and adult exposures not only to chemicals but also to radiation levels.
