"Politehnica" University of Timisoara: monitoring exposure to micro-nanotechnologies

"One of our projects refers to the laser processing and measuring technologies as a main part of the micro-nanotechnologies harmonized both with the prioritary research objectives of the European Union and the Romanian priorities.

On the other hand, the laser use in different professional domains must be doubled by norms of work protection with the establishment of exposure limits to minimise/to cancel the risk upon human health. The protection of human health during laser units operation means it is according to general rules from which the development and the application of a specific standard are derived. The primary objective in the protection of human health in professional exposure to laser is to establish an exposure level without risk for eye and skin.

Additionally, it will be assured the adequate protection against collateral hazards, including the risk of electrical shock, fire hazard from a beam or from use of dyes and solvents and chemical exposures from use of chemicals and vaporization of targets.

Moreover, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, radio frequency and microwave radiation and magnetic fields must be kept as low as reasonably achievable."
